My Left Breast is a long-time supporter of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, Bras Around the Building, and Birdies 4 Breast Cancer Care Memorial Golf Tournament.
Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival
My Left Breast staff – Bridget, Marlene and Peggy – have participated on the Survivors Abreast team in the Festival for many years. The Festival provides opportunities for breast cancer survivors and the community to participate in dragon boating – a fun, exciting, and rewarding sport that contributes to the health and well-being of breast cancer survivors and members of the larger community. It is a community event intended to promote awareness about breast cancer in our community and fundraise in support of breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Since the 2001 inaugural year, the Festival has raised millions of dollars for state-of-the-art equipment that enhances breast cancer detection, treatment and care.
Bras Around the Building
Bras Around the Building supports the Canadian Cancer Society, breast cancer research and awareness, and the services cancer patients use every day. During Breast Cancer Awareness month, gently used bras are collected and funds are raised from donors. With help from Peterborough Fire Services, collected bras are strung together around the exterior of the Energy 99.7/Country 105 building in Peterborough as a symbol of support for women battling breast cancer, to honour survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle. Upon completion of the campaign, a cheque is presented to the Peterborough and District Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research based on the final number of bras collected.
Birdies 4 Breast Cancer Care Memorial Golf Tournament
The annual golf tournament raises funds that go directly to help women in the Peterborough community while they are going through breast cancer and to ease their burden during the healing process.
